ZAGORIA
NATURE / CULTURE & SIGHTS / SUITABLE FOR FAMILIES / MODERATE
If you are looking for outstanding scenery with an abundance of flora & fauna then look no further – this is a nature lovers paradise!
A hidden world of traditional Greece is found in the region of Zagoria. The ‘Land behind the mountains’ is a wild, thinly populated region. The beauty of its landscape is unquestionable: dense forests, rugged mountains, clear rivers and of course the stunning Vikos Gorge.
We will have an opportunity to visit some of the best examples of the stone ‘pack horse’ bridges in the region before continuing to the impressive Vikos Gorge which, according to the Guiness book of Records, is the deepest in the world in proportion to its width. Here we will visit two viewing points which will offer some the most breathtaking sights you will see along this ravine. There will be plenty of photo opportunities & time of lunch in the Monodendri, one of the most beautiful villages of the region and declared a national historical monument.
On our return journey we stop in Ioannina, the capital of Epirus, which spreads out around the beautiful lake Pamvotida. You will have some free time to look around the fortified old quarter & take a drink along the waterfront.
